2008 U.S. Presidential Candidates and Social Networks
Below is the extent 2008 U.S. Presidential Candidates use social networks (some might not be fully considered such) for their political campaign. Data was collected from 10/9/2007 and 10/10/2007. The highest score in category (web site) was set at 100 and the remaining scores were determined by percentage of the highest score. Scores were then added up to obtain a total, sorted, and graphed.

- Democrats take 3 of top 5
- Ron Paul, which ranks fairly low in polls, came in as the highest Republican and 2nd place overall
- Surprisingly, many candidates are barely using social networks
Graph was made without intentional basis, as Freezing Hot is politically neutral. The list of candidates was obtained from the Washington Post.
What do you think about the above graph? Do you think candidates out of the top 5 will start embrace social media?

Thanks for not burying Ron Paul like MSNBC seems to do
Now add in Ron Paul’s meetup numbers for today 53,033.
Barack Obama on the other hand has 6,030 meet up members.
See how that skews the chart at almost 10 to 1 Ron over Barack.
These numbers represent on the ground volunteers not just myspace friends. This is grass roots boots on the ground. This is a huge metric that most people are simply ignoring.
Thanks libertyman. I had some trouble gathering meet up numbers, so I didn’t include those in the graph. Based on the numbers you provided, Barack would be at 549 and Ron would be at 426. I hope that helps. Let me know if you would like me to look at anything else or do a followup post with raw data/more information. Thanks for coming, reading, and commenting!

Please update your graph, since you missing one of the most popular politically-oriented sites.
